How the Spirit ecosystem works
Every lock in the Spirit line shares the same underlying platform, so a property or building owner can standardize on one system across every opening type:
- Credentials: RFID cards/fobs, smartphone (Bluetooth LE 4.2/5.2), PIN keypad, and mechanical key override — supporting MIFARE DESFire, MIFARE Ultralight, and MIFARE Classic, with optional Prox support.
- Security: AES 256 encryption, FCC Part 15 certified, ADA compliant, and UL/cUL fire-rated (rating varies by model, from 20 minutes to 3 hours).
- Management: The PDQ Spirit app lets property and facility teams schedule access windows, track access events and audit history, monitor battery status, and trigger lockdown or do-not-disturb modes remotely.
- Modes: Run standalone at each door, or connect locks for centralized, networked management across a building or property.
- Power: 4 AA alkaline batteries rated for up to 2 years of use, with low-battery alerts sent through the app before a lockout risk.
FAQs
Do PDQ's electronic locks require wiring?
No. Every lock in the Spirit line (GTS, SDS, KMS, MRS, CLS, and 6EWS) runs on battery power with no wiring required, which is what makes them well suited to retrofit projects. GTS and SDS also support a hardwired 5V DC option.
What's the difference between a keypad lock and PDQ's electronic locks?
"Keypad lock" usually refers to a lock with a PIN pad as its only credential type. PDQ's Spirit locks support PIN entry, but also RFID, smartphone (Bluetooth), and mechanical key override in the same unit — so a single Spirit lock covers what would otherwise take several different hardware types.
Can these locks be managed remotely?
Yes. The PDQ Spirit app supports both standalone, door-by-door management and centralized, networked (online) management across a property.
Which lock is right for my project?
It depends on the door hardware you're replacing: use GTS or SDS for cylindrical lock openings, KMS for deadbolt openings, MRS for mortise lock openings, CLS for interconnected lock openings, and 6EWS to electrify a 6300 Series exit device.
