FAQs
How is the SDE different from PDQ's Bluetooth-enabled electronic locks like GTS or KMS?
SDE is built on a tubular chassis and is a simpler, PIN-code-and-key standalone lock rather than a Bluetooth/smartphone-enabled system, it does not read RFID cards or mobile credentials. It's positioned for lighter-duty interior and common-area doors, and fits a standard 161 door prep for straightforward retrofit installation.
How many PIN codes can the SDE lock store?
SDE supports up to 20 permanent PIN codes plus temporary PIN capability, which fits single-family, small multifamily, or common-area doors that don't need hundreds of user credentials. Entry is limited to PIN codes and a mechanical key, there's no card or smartphone reader on this model.
Does the SDE lock need Wi-Fi or a network connection to work?
No, SDE operates standalone with no wiring required, though it's built to work seamlessly with existing access control systems for facilities that want to fold it into a broader networked setup. It includes auto-lock functionality and runs on four AA alkaline batteries with low-battery warnings.
What door thickness and backset does the SDE tubular lock fit?
SDE fits doors from 1-3/8" to 2" thick with an adjustable 2-3/8" to 2-3/4" backset, a reversible hand, and a standard "T" strike. This range suits typical multifamily unit entry and common-area doors during retrofit replacement.
Is the SDE lock weather resistant for exterior common-area doors?
Yes, SDE has a weather-resistant design suited to multifamily and commercial entry/common-area doors, and it's ADA compliant. It's available in 619 (satin nickel) and 622 (flat black) finishes.
