How PDQ Hardware Secured All 148 Suites at Hyatt House The Woodlands – Shenandoah

A residentially inspired extended-stay concept in Shenandoah, Texas needed door hardware durable enough for commercial hospitality use but unobtrusive enough for a design that's meant to feel like home. PDQ's SD Series locks, 3100 and 7100 Series closers, hinges, and flat goods now secure every guestroom, common area, and back-of-house door on the property.

      About the property

Hyatt House The Woodlands – Shenandoah, part of Metropark Square, reimagines the extended-stay hotel as a social, residential-feeling community rather than a standard corridor of guest rooms. The property is steps from The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, Market Street, and The Woodlands Mall, and within easy reach of major regional employers, including ExxonMobil, Anadarko, and McKesson, along with area medical centers such as Texas Children's Hospital, St. Luke's Health, and Houston Methodist Hospital.

The hotel's 148 guestrooms are built around a residential floor plan rather than a traditional hotel layout: contemporary Studios, One- and Two-Bedroom Kitchen Suites, and Den Guestrooms designed to feel like apartments. Shared spaces carry the same philosophy, including a Lounge styled after a modern living room, an adjacent H BAR and Social Sectional, and additional multi-purpose indoor and outdoor social areas.

      The Challenge

Hyatt House's extended-stay model asks more of its door hardware than a typical hotel floor plan. Guests often stay for weeks at a time, so every guestroom door, connecting door, and common-area opening needed to hold up to residential-style daily use as well as high-turnover hospitality traffic, without looking or feeling institutional. At the same time, the project needed hardware that would clear Hyatt's brand construction standards, work across every door type in the building from guest suites to housekeeping and utility rooms, and be sourced through a single distributor to keep the project on schedule for a 2021 opening.

That combination, contemporary residential aesthetic, commercial-grade durability, and brand approval, across every opening in a 148-suite property, is the specification challenge PDQ was brought in to solve.

      The Solution

Working through distributor PC Hardware, the project team specified a single, coordinated PDQ hardware package across every door type in the building rather than mixing vendors by room type:

      Cylindrical Lock · Grade 2

      SD Series

Specified on every guestroom entry door across all 148 Studios, Kitchen Suites, and Den Guestrooms. Value-engineered Grade 2 construction with multiple finish and lever options to match the property's residential design intent.

      View SD Series
      Door Closer · Light Duty

      3100 Series

Installed on guestroom entry doors, where a lighter-duty, ANSI/BHMA Grade 1-certified closer keeps daily operation smooth and quiet, appropriate for a residentially inspired guest experience.

      View 3100 Series
Door Closer · Extra Heavy Duty

      7100 Series

Specified for common-area, utility, and storage room doors, where higher cycle counts and rougher day-to-day use call for PDQ's extra heavy duty closer line.

      View 7100 Series
      Hinges

2 Ball Bearing – Standard Duty

Rounding out the door package across guestroom and common-area openings, with corrosion-resistant construction built to match the closer and lock hardware on the same door.

      General Hardware

      Flat Goods

Wall and door guards, stops, and latch protectors specified alongside the lock and closer package to protect finishes and hardware from everyday wear in a high-turnover extended-stay property.

Sourcing all five product categories from one manufacturer let the project team standardize on a single key system across the property rather than reconciling hardware from multiple vendors room type by room type, and gave Hyatt's brand-standards review one consistent hardware package to approve.
