      FAQs

When should I use the 4200V instead of the 4200R?

Use the 4200V on a pair of doors without a mullion where each leaf needs independent top-and-bottom latching via surface-mounted vertical rods; the 4200R is a single-door rim device with no rods. Both share the same value-tier positioning and finish options, differing only in single-door versus pair-of-doors application.

How does the 4200V's fire rating compare to the 6300V's?

The 4200V's UL fire listing covers single doors up to 3' x 7' at a 1-1/2 hour rating, while the 6300V covers 3-hour fire doors up to 8' x 8' for door pairs. If a project needs a fire-rated pair of doors with vertical rod hardware, the 6300V is the correct listing to specify, not the 4200V.

What door height does the 4200V support?

Extension rods accommodate doors up to 10 feet tall, though the device is standard for 3-foot-wide doors with an option for widths up to 4 feet, height and width scale independently based on the rod length and chassis width ordered.

What latching hardware does the 4200V use?

It's a surface vertical rod device with Pullman latches at both the top and bottom of the door, and hex key dogging is standard on the mechanical version, but not available on fire-listed units, consistent with fire door code requirements.

What's the minimum stile width for the 4200V?

4-1/4" minimum stile width for the exit-only device, matching the 4200R's requirement and wider than the 3-1/2" minimum on PDQ's 6300-series wide-stile devices.

What finishes are available for the 4200V?

Six finishes: 605, 626 (satin chrome), 630 (satin stainless), 689 (aluminum), 695 (bronze), and 696 (gold), the same expanded decorative palette as the 4200R, marketed as "a high quality exit device at an affordable price."
