How is the PDQ 4200R different from the 6300R?
The 4200R is PDQ's value-tier rim exit device, positioned as "the quality you need at the cost you like," with a shorter fire rating (UL listed up to 1-1/2 hours on doors up to 3' x 7'), compared to the 6300R's 3-hour, 4' x 10" rating and stated Grade 1 BHMA certification. Choose the 4200R for standard commercial single doors that don't require the 6300R's heavier duty tier or larger fire-rated sizing.
Is the 4200R rated for both panic and fire doors?
Yes, it carries UL 305 panic certification and a separate UL "Fire Exit Hardware" listing for up to 1-1/2 hours on doors up to 3' x 7' maximum size, so the same rim chassis serves both fire-rated and standard commercial openings, within that size limit.
What door widths and stile widths fit the 4200R?
It's designed as standard for 3-foot doors, with an option for doors up to 4 feet wide, and requires a minimum 4-1/4" stile for the device itself, a wider stile requirement than PDQ's 6300R because of the 4200's different chassis construction.
Can the 4200R be dogged open?
Hex key dogging is standard, but it's not available on fire-listed versions of the device, a common tradeoff on panic hardware, since a fire door can't be permitted to be held open in its latched position for code compliance.
What finishes are available for the 4200R?
Six finishes: 626 (satin chrome), 630 (satin stainless), 689 (aluminum), 695 (bronze), 696 (gold), and 605, giving a broader decorative-finish range (including bronze and gold options) than PDQ's 6300-series devices.
