FAQs
What does the PDQ AL alarm kit do?
The PDQ AL is a battery-powered, self-contained door alarm that sounds a 95dB audible alert whenever a monitored exit device is opened, flagging unauthorized or unmonitored door use. It's built specifically to retrofit onto PDQ's 6300 and 6400 series exit devices without any hardwired power connection.
Which exit devices is the PDQ AL alarm kit compatible with?
Is the PDQ AL kit a delayed-egress device?
No, the AL kit is an audible exit alarm, not a delayed-egress lock, so it sounds an alert when the door opens rather than delaying the door from opening. It's meant for monitoring and deterrence on doors like stairwell exits and secondary egress doors where immediate egress must stay unobstructed.
How long does the battery last in the PDQ AL alarm kit?
The AL kit runs about one year on its internal battery when armed and unactuated. It gives an audible low-battery warning (an intermittent chirp), once voltage drops below 7VDC, so facility staff get advance notice before a battery change is needed.
Can the PDQ AL alarm's auto-silence timing be adjusted?
Yes, the alarm can be configured to auto-silence after 7, 3, or 1 minute of continuous sounding. It also shows armed status with a red LED that blinks every 10 seconds, letting facility managers match the alarm behavior to their operational or code requirements.
Can the PDQ AL alarm kit integrate with a building's access control or monitoring system?
Yes, it includes an optional relay output that can feed into an existing access control or building monitoring system for centralized alerting. An optional latchbolt monitor is also available for added position and tamper monitoring on the exit device itself.
