Lever, Pull and Thumb Latch Trim for PDQ Exit Devices
Exit device trim is the lever, knob, pull or thumb latch on the outside of a door with an exit device, and it controls who can enter from that side. PDQ makes lever trim, pull trim, thumb latch trim and escutcheon trim for its 6300, 6400 and 4200 Series exit devices, plus wired and wireless trim for access control. Start with the exit device on the door, then choose the trim style and function.
Exit Device Trim by Series
Each trim is built for one exit device family. Find your device series on the card badge, then pick the style and function.
- 6300 and 6400 Series: our most popular exit devices. 6-prefix trim fits the 6300 Series (wide stile), and the 6N, 6T, 6G and 6C also fit the 6400 Series (narrow stile). All of it is non-handed or field reversible.
- Electrified and wireless: the 6W99 and 6EWS add access control to 6300 devices.
- 4200 Series: every 4-prefix trim fits the 4200R rim and 4200V surface vertical rod devices.

How to Choose Exit Device Trim
Step 1
Match the trim to the exit device and the stile
Trim is built for one device family, so start with the exit device on the door. The 6300 and 6400 Series use trim that starts with 6, and the 4200 Series uses trim that starts with 4. Then check the stile. Narrow escutcheons like the 6N work on both 6300 wide stile and 6400 narrow stile devices. Wide escutcheons like the 6W work only on wide stile devices, and they cover existing holes when you retrofit a door. The 6S and 6P also fit the 6300 only.
On a 2-1/8" aluminum storefront stile, the 6400 takes only the 6C cylinder only trim. See the 4200 trim submittal sheet for 4200 options.
Step 2
Pick the trim style and function
Lever trim comes on a wide escutcheon, a narrow escutcheon or a rose. Pull trim and thumb latch trim give a fixed handle with no lever to turn, and the 4K covers doors that call for a knob.
The function sets what the outside trim does. Passage leaves it free, classroom lets a key lock or unlock it, and storeroom keeps it locked so entry takes a key. Night latch adds key entry to a pull or cylinder trim, and dummy trim opens the door only when the inside bar is locked down.
Where PDQ Exit Device Trim Fits

Education
Teachers need a fast way to lock a classroom door from outside. Use classroom function lever trim like the 6N or 6W, and add 6EWS wireless trim to 6300R or 6300V entrances for card or phone access.

Healthcare
Staff-only rooms need trim that stays locked from the corridor. Use storeroom function trim, add the AM antimicrobial coating on high-touch doors, and use the 6W99 where the door ties into access control.

Retail Storefronts
Aluminum storefront doors use the narrow stile 6400 Series, so pair them with 6N, 6T or 6G trim. On a 2-1/8" stile, the 6C gives staff key entry. The 4200 trims cover back-of-house doors.
Exit Device Trim FAQs
What is exit device trim?
Exit device trim is the lever, knob, pull or thumb latch on the outside of a door with an exit device. It sets what someone outside can do, such as open the door freely, unlock it with a key, or open it only when the bar is locked down. People inside always leave by pushing the bar. It is also called outside trim or panic bar trim.
Do I need outside trim on a panic bar?
No. Outside trim is only needed when people must open the door from outside. An exit-only door can go without trim, or use a blank or exit only function such as the 6N, 6P or 4P in function 01. If staff need key entry with no handle, the 6C cylinder only trim adds a key on the night latch function.
Which trim fits PDQ 6300 and 6400 Series exit devices?
The 6300 Series takes the 6N, 6W, 6S, 6T, 6G, 6P and 6C, plus the electrified 6W99 and, on the 6300R and 6300V, the wireless 6EWS. The narrow stile 6400 Series takes the 6N, 6T, 6G and 6C, but the 6T does not fit the 6400C. The 4200 Series uses its own trim, such as the 4EW and 4EN.
What trim functions are available?
PDQ exit device trim comes in exit only, dummy, night latch, classroom, storeroom and passage functions, plus electrified storeroom on the 6W99. Lever trims offer the widest range, while pulls and the 6C focus on dummy and night latch. Not every function comes in every trim style, so check the compare table.
Can exit device trim be electrified?
Yes. The 6W99 is a wired version of the 6W that locks and unlocks the lever from an access control system on 12 to 24 VDC or VAC, and it changes from fail secure to fail safe in the field. The 6EWS is wireless trim for the 6300R and 6300V that opens by RFID card, smartphone, PIN or key and runs on four AA batteries. Both are assembled in the USA.
