FAQs
Why choose a concealed vertical rod exit device over a surface-mounted one?
The 6300C hides its top and bottom rods inside the door instead of running them across the face, giving a cleaner look on doors where exposed hardware is a design concern, corporate lobbies, storefronts, and other aesthetic-sensitive wide-stile openings. It costs more than the surface-mounted 6300V but eliminates visible rod hardware entirely.
Is the 6300C rated for fire door pairs?
Yes. It carries UL 305 panic certification plus ETL UL 10C and CAN/ULC-S104 listing for 3-hour fire doors, matching the 4' x 10' single-door and 8' x 8' pair coverage of PDQ's other 6300-family fire-rated devices, despite routing its rods inside the door.
What door thickness and height does the 6300C support?
It's built for doors 1-3/4" to 2" thick, up to 10' tall on panic (non-fire) applications, in standard 24", 36", and 48" widths. Because the rod mechanism runs inside the door, the door must be able to accommodate the internal routing, confirm door prep with the manufacturer before specifying.
What's the minimum stile width for the 6300C?
It requires the same 3-1/2" minimum wide stile as PDQ's other 6300-series devices. If the door frame is narrower than that, the narrow-stile 6400C is the concealed-rod option instead.
What finishes are available for the 6300C?
Six standard finishes (605, 606, 613E, 622, 626, and 630), with an optional antimicrobial coating on 626 and 630, the same finish set used across the 6300/6400 lines so concealed and surface-rod devices can match on the same project.
