      FAQs

What is a pull plate exit device trim, and when would I use one instead of a lever?

A pull plate (6P) is a flat stainless steel plate with no lever, knob, or latch-retracting handle; it lets someone pull the door open from outside but provides no way to unlatch or lock/unlock the exit device from that side. It's used on doors that should never open or lock from the outside, such as designated push/pull traffic doors paired with a rim cylinder for keyed access.

Can the 6P be used with PDQ's narrow stile 6400 exit devices?

No, PDQ states the 6P pull plate is not compatible with the 6400 narrow stile exit device series. It's built specifically for the 6300 series wide stile exit devices in rim, surface vertical rod, and concealed vertical rod configurations.

What material and finishes is the 6P pull plate available in?

The 6P is made of stainless steel and offered in three finishes (dark oxidized satin bronze (613E), flat black (622), and satin stainless steel (630)), giving it a durable, low-maintenance surface suited to high-traffic push/pull entrances.

What applications call for pull-only trim like the 6P instead of a lever escutcheon?

Pull-only trim is specified for doors where outside access should stay controlled by something other than the trim itself, for example, a cylinder dogging function, a card reader, or one-way egress doors with keyed access via a separate rim cylinder. It's common in hospitality, education, government, healthcare, and multifamily buildings that want a clean push/pull look instead of a lever.

Does the 6P include a cylinder for locking the door from outside?

The 6P itself has no built-in locking cylinder; it's designed to work alongside a standard rim cylinder mounted separately in the exit device chassis for keyed entry. The pull plate handles the "grab and open" function while the cylinder handles access control.
