FAQs
How do I change the GT199 between fail-secure and fail-safe?
The GT199 is field-changeable from fail-secure to fail-safe without replacing the lock, so the same chassis can be reconfigured on-site to match code requirements for a given door. Fail-secure is the typical default for classroom and office doors; fail-safe is used where egress must remain unlocked on power loss.
What's the power draw on the GT199, and how big a power supply do I need?
Standby current runs 3-12mA depending on input voltage (12-24VAC/VDC), with a 1.0A in-rush spike only during the lock/unlock cycle. PDQ recommends its power supply #81440 (120VAC or 240VAC input, 24VDC/2A output), which sizes for the in-rush plus headroom for a reader or request-to-exit circuit on the same run.
Can the GT199 send a request-to-exit signal to my access panel?
Yes, the GT199 has an optional Request-to-Exit (REX) function that can be specified at order time to feed status to an access control panel. It runs on the same SMARTSENSE control board that accepts both AC and DC input, so REX wiring doesn't require a separate control module.
What's covered under the GT199's warranty, is the electronic part covered the same as the mechanical lock body?
No, coverage is split. PDQ backs the mechanical lock body with a 25-year warranty and the electronic/electrified components (motor, control board) with a 2-year warranty, reflecting that the motorized locking mechanism is a separate, higher-wear system from the Grade 1 lock chassis itself.
Is the GT199 durable enough for high-traffic doors like classrooms or offices?
Yes, PDQ's motor-drive testing on the GT199 exceeded 1.4 million cycles, roughly 3x the ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 cycle standard. That cycle rating is on the electrified locking motor specifically, on top of the Grade 1 mechanical lock chassis it's built on, making it suited to high-use cylindrical lock openings like classroom or office doors on access control.
