FAQs
What's the minimum stile width for the 6400C, and how does it compare to the 6400V?
The 6400C requires as little as 2-1/8" of stile width on aluminum frames, narrower than the 3-1/8" minimum for the surface-mounted 6400V. Concealing the rods inside the door lets the 6400C fit tighter storefront profiles than a device with rods running across the door face.
Why choose the 6400C over the 6400V on a narrow-stile door pair?
Choose the 6400C when the project needs the narrowest possible frame profile or a rod-free appearance, its cost is higher than the surface-mounted 6400V, but it hides the vertical rods inside the door instead of running them visibly up the face.
Is the 6400C fire-rated?
Yes. It's ETL listed for UL 305 panic hardware and UL 10C fire exit hardware up to 3 hours, covering door pairs up to 8' x 8', matching the fire coverage of PDQ's other narrow-stile 6400 devices in a concealed-rod chassis.
What latching hardware does the 6400C use top and bottom?
The top latch is a 3/4" stainless steel toggle and the bottom is a 5/8" travel drop bolt; a less-bottom-rod configuration is also available where sill latching isn't required or practical, such as over carpet or an uneven threshold.
Does the 6400C support keyed dogging?
Yes, hex key dogging is standard, with cylinder dogging available as an upgrade so the device can be held retracted (push/pull only) with a keyed cylinder instead of an Allen wrench, common where non-staff shouldn't be able to dog the door open.
What finishes are available for the 6400C?
Six standard finishes (605, 606, 613E, 622, 626, 630) with optional antimicrobial coating on 626 and 630, matching the finish options used across PDQ's other exit device series for hardware consistency on a single building.
