      Commercial Electronic Door Locks

      Talk To An Expert

Wireless Keyless Entry Locks with No Wiring

Commercial electronic door locks are locks for business and multifamily doors that open with an RFID card, smartphone or PIN code instead of only a key. PDQ Spirit locks build that into PDQ's own cylindrical, mortise, deadbolt, interconnected and exit device hardware, run on 4 AA batteries with no wiring, and are managed in the PDQ Spirit app. For doors that only need a code, the SDE tubular lock opens by PIN or key.

Electronic Door Locks by Door Type

Start with the hardware the door uses today. Each Spirit lock is built from a PDQ mechanical lock of the same type, and the SDE covers doors that only need PIN entry.

Every Spirit lock opens by RFID card or fob, smartphone, PIN or mechanical key, runs on 4 AA alkaline batteries or 5V DC, uses AES 256 encryption, is FCC Part 15 certified and ADA compliant, and is assembled in the USA. The SDS and KMS offer an optional IPX5 outdoor rating; the other Spirit models are for indoor use. Spirit finishes are 606, 613E and 622, plus 626 (GTS, SDS, KMS, CLS, 6EWS) or 630 (MRS). The SDE opens by PIN or key only, runs on 4 AA batteries, is weather resistant and ADA compliant, and has no fire listing, so use a Spirit lock on fire-rated doors.

Key: SFIC = small format interchangeable core · LFIC = large format interchangeable core · IPX5 = rated to resist water jets · BHMA grades: Grade 1 is the highest commercial grade

How to Choose an Electronic Door Lock

PDQ Spirit GTS electronic cylindrical lock

      Step 1

Match the lock to the door

Pick the Spirit lock built from the hardware the door takes today: the GTS or SDS for a cylindrical lock, the MRS for a mortise lock, the KMS for a deadbolt, the CLS for an interconnected lock and the 6EWS for a 6300 rim or surface vertical rod exit device. Use the SDE where a PIN code and a key are all the door needs and the door isn't fire rated. Choose the Grade 1 GTS over the Grade 2 SDS for high-traffic doors or where you need a 45-minute rating. Check fire ratings, door thickness and outdoor use in the comparison table.

      App & Door

      Step 2

Choose credentials and the key override

Every Spirit lock reads RFID cards and fobs, smartphones over Bluetooth and PIN codes, and keeps a mechanical key override. The card reader supports MIFARE DESFire, Ultralight and Classic, with optional Prox for buildings moving off older card systems. Key the override into your existing system with a conventional cylinder, small format interchangeable core or high security cylinder from PDQ key systems.

      6EWS in use

      Step 3

      Plan power and management

Spirit locks run on 4 AA alkaline batteries rated for up to 2 years, or on 5V DC, and the PDQ Spirit app sends low battery alerts. Run each door standalone from the app, or add a Spirit Hub to extend Bluetooth range, update firmware remotely and report into an OSDP-compatible access control panel.

      Where PDQ Electronic Locks Fit

      Modern multifamily apartment building entrance

      Multifamily

Residents want phone and card entry, and managers want fewer keys to track. Use the MRS, KMS or CLS on unit doors, the GTS on amenity and common-area doors, and the 6EWS on building entries with exit devices.

Key card held to a reader beside a commercial office door lever

      Commercial and Co-working

Offices and shared workspaces change users often. The SDS and GTS add card, phone and PIN entry to suites and conference rooms without running wire through finished walls, and access windows limit entry to set hours.

      University campus building

      Education

Classroom doors take heavy use and need a fast way to secure the room. The Grade 1 GTS adds local lockdown and access logs, and the 6EWS brings card or phone entry to exit device doors.

      Electronic Door Lock FAQs

What is a commercial electronic door lock?

A commercial electronic door lock is a lock for business and multifamily doors that opens with an RFID card, smartphone or PIN code instead of only a key. PDQ Spirit locks build this into PDQ's commercial cylindrical, mortise, deadbolt, interconnected and exit device trim hardware. They run on batteries with no wiring, keep a mechanical key override, and are managed in the PDQ Spirit app. PDQ also makes the SDE, a standalone tubular lock that opens by PIN code or key.

Do PDQ electronic door locks need wiring?

No. Every PDQ electronic lock runs on 4 AA alkaline batteries, so you can install it without running wire or conduit to the door. Spirit locks are rated for up to 2 years per set of batteries, can also take a 5V DC supply, and send low battery alerts to the PDQ Spirit app. The SDE shows a low battery indicator on the lock.

What credentials do Spirit locks accept?

Every Spirit lock accepts RFID cards and fobs, smartphones over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE 4.2 and 5.2), PIN codes and a mechanical key override. The card reader supports MIFARE DESFire EV1, EV2, EV3 and Light, MIFARE Ultralight and MIFARE Classic, with optional Prox for buildings moving off older card systems. Communication is encrypted with AES 256.

Can Spirit locks connect to an existing access control system?

Yes, through the Spirit Hub. The Hub reports Spirit locks into an OSDP-compatible access control panel over OSDP v2.2, extends Bluetooth range and supports remote firmware updates. You only need a Hub for panel integration, extra range or remote management; otherwise each lock runs standalone from the PDQ Spirit app.

Are PDQ electronic door locks fire rated and ADA compliant?

Every Spirit lock is UL/cUL 10C fire rated, ADA compliant and FCC Part 15 certified. The fire rating depends on the model: 3 hours for the MRS and 6EWS, 45 minutes for the GTS, and 20 minutes for the SDS, KMS and CLS. The SDE is ADA compliant but has no fire listing, so use a Spirit lock on fire-rated doors.

Which PDQ electronic lock is right for my door?

Match the lock to the hardware the door uses today. Use the GTS or SDS for a cylindrical lock, the MRS for a mortise lock, the KMS for a deadbolt, the CLS for an interconnected lock and the 6EWS for a PDQ 6300 rim or surface vertical rod exit device. Use the SDE on non-rated doors that only need PIN entry. A PDQ rep can confirm the fit for your door prep: Talk To An Expert.
