      FAQs

Why can't I use the same electric strike on a mortise lock as on a cylindrical lock?

A mortise lock's latch has a different throw and keeper geometry than a cylindrical lock's, so the keeper pocket and strike lip must be sized to match. The 85003 is built specifically for PDQ MR series mortise lock latches, while the 85001 is sized for cylindrical lock latches, they aren't interchangeable.

Which PDQ locks work with the 85003?

The 85003 is designed for all PDQ MR series mortise locks without a deadbolt. It's not rated for mortise locksets that include a separate deadbolt function, since a strike can't release a deadbolt-projected bolt.

      Is the 85003 fail-safe or fail-secure?

It's field-changeable from fail-secure to fail-safe, so installers can configure it on-site to match code requirements for the specific opening rather than stocking two separate strike models.

What's the voltage and current draw on the 85003?

The 85003 operates on 12-24VDC, drawing 0.28A at 12VDC or 0.14A at 24VDC, identical electrical specs to PDQ's cylindrical-lock strike, so the same low-voltage power supply sizing applies whether you're wiring a mortise or cylindrical opening.

How many cycles is the 85003 rated for?

PDQ factory-tests the 85003 to 1,000,000 cycles, matching the durability level appropriate for mortise-lock openings that see frequent electric access control use, such as controlled office or stairwell doors.
