What's the difference between PDQ's SDS and GTS electronic locks?
SDS is built on PDQ's SD Series Grade 2 cylindrical chassis, while GTS uses the Grade 1 GT Series chassis, meaning SDS targets standard-duty interior commercial doors rather than the highest-traffic entries. Both share the same BLE 4.2/5.2 electronics and credential options; the difference is the mechanical durability grade underneath.
What credentials does the SDS lock accept, including older card formats?
SDS reads RFID cards, Bluetooth smartphone credentials, PIN codes, and a mechanical key, with support for MIFARE DESFire EV1/EV2/EV3/Light, MIFARE Ultralight, and MIFARE Classic formats plus optional Prox. The added MIFARE Classic support makes it a fit for buildings migrating from older legacy card systems.
Is the SDS lock rated for outdoor or exterior use?
SDS offers an optional IPX5 outdoor rating for weather exposure, which isn't called out on PDQ's higher-grade GTS listing. This makes SDS a candidate for covered exterior interior-facing doors in addition to its primary use on interior commercial and co-working space doors.
How long does the SDS lock's battery last, and can it run on external power instead?
SDS runs on four AA alkaline batteries for about two years, or it can be powered by an optional 5V DC supply for installations that prefer not to manage battery swaps. A low-battery warning alerts facility staff before the lock loses power.
What door thickness and backset does the SDS lock fit?
SDS fits doors from 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" thick with a 2-3/8", 2-3/4" (standard), or 5" backset, making it adaptable to typical interior commercial door preps. It's designed for interior doors in office buildings and co-working spaces rather than exterior entries.
