A 330-room, full-service hotel anchoring downtown Tempe's redevelopment needed door hardware built for heavy day-to-day guest traffic, code-required egress across nearly 36,000 square feet of meeting and event space, and architectural approval for a flagship, ASU-adjacent property, all sourced through a single distributor. PDQ's MR Series mortise locks, exit devices, 7100 Series closers, hinges, and flat goods, specified through Allegheny Commercial Doors, now secure guest rooms, meeting space, dining outlets, and back-of-house doors throughout the property.
About the property
Omni Tempe Hotel at ASU is anchoring the next phase of downtown Tempe's redevelopment, bringing one of the city's largest blocks of conference and meeting space to a neighborhood built around Arizona State University. The property includes 330 guest rooms, including 11 suites, four dining outlets, a spacious pool deck, retail space, and almost 36,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor meeting space, with views of the ASU campus and the Tempe skyline.
Built in 2023 in partnership with architect C+ TC Design Studio, the hotel was outfitted with a coordinated PDQ hardware package specified and delivered through distributor Allegheny Commercial Doors.
The Challenge
A full-service, conference-anchored hotel puts different demands on door hardware than a single-purpose extended-stay property. Omni Tempe's 330 guest rooms needed lock hardware with the security and durability befitting a flagship, brand-standard Omni property. At the same time, nearly 36,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space meant a large share of the building's doors fall under assembly-occupancy code requirements, calling for panic hardware rather than a standard latching lockset. Four dining outlets, a pool deck, and retail space added still more door types and traffic patterns to plan for, all on the same construction schedule.
Rather than sourcing guest room locks, meeting-space exit devices, and back-of-house closers from separate vendors, the project team needed one hardware manufacturer that could cover every one of those categories, meet Omni's brand-construction standards, and be supplied through a single distributor in time for the hotel's 2023 opening. That's the same coordinated-package challenge PDQ was brought in to solve.
