What is the MJ Series and how does it differ from a mortise lockset like the MR Series?
The MJ Series is a mortise deadbolt only; it has no latch or lever, unlike the MR Series which combines lever, latch, and deadbolt in one case. MJ is typically specified as a second, standalone locking point on a door already fitted with a separate lever lock or exit device.
Is the MJ mortise deadbolt fire rated?
Yes, it's UL listed for 3 hours on single doors up to 4'0" x 8'0", so it can be specified on fire-rated door assemblies alongside a compatible mortise or exit device lock.
Is the MJ deadbolt ADA compliant?
Most MJ functions meet ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1 requirements using an ADA-compliant lever-style thumb turn, with the exception of the 134LH and 134RH classroom-style functions, which are not ADA compliant.
Does the MJ Series offer an occupancy indicator?
Yes, an optional vacant/occupied indicator is available, useful for private offices, exam rooms, or restrooms where occupants need a visible signal that the deadbolt is engaged.
