      FAQs

What applications is the KM Series heavy-duty deadbolt designed for?

The KM Series is built for heavy-duty commercial exterior doors and high-traffic areas (schools, retail entries, and office exteriors), offering single cylinder, double cylinder, and classroom functions with a 1" throw brass bolt and case-hardened steel roll pin.

Does the KM deadbolt accept small-format interchangeable cores (SFIC)?

Yes. With a conventional cylinder it fits doors 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" thick; with SFIC it fits thicker doors from 1-1/2" to 2". SFIC cores are 6 or 7-pin and compatible with Best, Falcon, and Arrow systems.

What's the difference between single cylinder, double cylinder, and classroom function on the KM deadbolt?

Single cylinder uses a key outside and a thumbturn inside for standard exterior doors; double cylinder requires a key on both sides (no interior thumbturn), often used near glazed doors to prevent break-and-reach entry; classroom function is keyed on one or both sides for controlled access in institutional settings.

Is the KM deadbolt ADA compliant and fire rated?

Yes to both, it meets ADA and ICC/ANSI 117.1 accessibility standards, and it's UL10C listed for 3-hour fire doors (auxiliary lock on A-label single doors up to 4' x 8') plus UL10B listed for neutral pressure doors.

How does the KM deadbolt compare to the KT Series for exterior door security?

KM is sized for standard heavy-duty commercial exteriors, while KT adds a second concealed case-hardened roll pin in the bolt for extra heavy-duty, high-abuse applications. Both share the same UL10C/10B fire ratings and SCC keyway, so the choice comes down to the level of forced-entry exposure at the door.
