      About the property

Willow, the largest apartment building in the RiverHeath complex, sits on the Fox River in Appleton just steps from downtown. Residents have access to a coffee shop, miles of nature trails, birdwatching, kayaking, and an apartment building powered entirely by clean, renewable energy.

Sustainability has been core to RiverHeath from the start. The U.S. Department of Energy awarded the project a grant to help fund its geothermal exchange heating and cooling system, green energy drawn straight from the river. The adjacent hydro-electric plant, operated by Kaukauna Utilities, adds one of the closest sources of emission-free energy available to the property.

      The Challenge

Apartment complex propertiess like RiverHeath, with this many amenities and shared spaces (coffee shop, trails, common areas) needs consistent, durable security across every door type without compromising the sustainability story or the architectural intent

      The Solution

PDQ worked with Engberg Anderson Architects and Block Iron to specify one hardware family across every door condition on the property.

      Door Closer · Standard Duty

      5300 Series

Grade 1, standard duty, door closers. For corridor and common-area doors in the skilled nursing building and the town center amenity spaces, where higher cycle counts and staff/cart traffic call for Grade 1 durability.

      Exit Device · Grade 1

      6300 Exit Device

Specified on common-area and egress doors, where code-required panic hardware and heavy-duty cycle ratings hold up to shared-space traffic outside the residences.

Sourcing all seven product lines from one manufacturer let the architect and distributor standardize finishes and function across both connected buildings, rather than reconciling hardware from multiple vendors building by building or care level by care level.
