How PDQ Hardware Secured 99 Independent Living Units at Oakmont Senior Community

Oakmont Senior Community in Verona, Wisconsin needed door hardware that could support a full range of door types across a 99-unit independent living property without adding an institutional feel to a building designed for residents 55 and up. PDQ's GT, CL, and MR Series locks, along with 7100 Series closers and 6300 Series exit devices, now secure every opening on the property.

      About the property

Oakmont Senior Community offers 99 independent living luxury apartments for seniors 55 and up, with support, services, amenities, and on-site management. The property sits close to shops, restaurants, and cultural venues in Verona and the greater Madison area, giving residents easy access to the surrounding community.

Oakmont is designed for residents who want more than a basic apartment offers: carefree living, groceries delivered, and space to visit with friends and family without the call-button level of support that comes with assisted living.

      The Challenge

Oakmont's 99-unit independent living community needed to outfit several distinct door types under one hardware package: apartment entries, common areas, storage and mechanical rooms, public restrooms, and fire-rated exterior and interior doors. For a property serving residents 55 and up who want the ease of independent living without a call-button level of support, apartment entry hardware in particular needed to be simple enough for daily use by an aging population, while common-area and fire-rated openings still had to meet Grade 1 durability and code requirements.

      The Solution

Working through distributor Valley North Distributing, the project specified a coordinated PDQ hardware package across every door type rather than mixing vendors by application:

      Cylindrical Lock · Grade 1

      GT Series

Specified for common areas, storage, and mechanical rooms . GT's Grade 1 construction holds up to that cycle count without requiring a separate, heavier-duty lock line for back-of-house doors.

      Interconnected Lock · Grade 2

      CL Series

Installed on apartment entry doors, combining a passage latch and deadbolt in one unit sized to standard apartment door prep.

      Mortise Lock · Grade 1

      MR Series

Specified with occupancy indicators for public restrooms throughout the property. Grade 1 mortise construction delivers high security and finish quality.

Door Closer · Extra Heavy Duty

      7100 Series

Institutional Grade 1 closers specified building-wide across the Oakmont property for reliable, high-cycle performance.

      Exit Device · Grade 1

      6300 Exit Device

Specified on common-area and egress doors, where code-required panic hardware and heavy-duty cycle ratings hold up to shared-space traffic outside the residences.

Sourcing all three product lines from one manufacturer let the architect and distributor standardize finishes and function across all 65 units rather than reconciling hardware from multiple vendors unit by unit.
